wonderful programs and projects that have changed the world.

We pray for the guidance and endurance to continue the legacy.

Cerritos Area Alumnae Chapter

Cerritos Area Alumnae Chapter chartered on May 1, 1999 with 21 sorors dedicated to the mission of public service to the community. The chapter's service area includes the Southern California communities of Cerritos, Artesia, Hawaiian Gardens, Bellflower, Downey, Norwalk, La Mirada, Santa Fe Springs, and Whittier.

The public service programs that we have brought to the community include the Delta Academy serving 11-14 year old Girls, GEMS serving 14-18 year old Girls, Scholarships presented to seniors graduating from local area high schools, Women Helping Women promoting good Mental and Physical health and economic support with donations to needy families as well as enhancements to the lives of chapter members. International Day of Service providing information about prevention and treatment for HIV/AIDS, and on other health issues of particular concern to the African American community. Eternal Word Communication Ministries is the chapter's international project giving support to the Eternal Word Christian Schools International, located in Nigeria. Chapter members participate in the political arena by raising awareness, educating and advocacy with voter registration drives, voter education forums, and active involvement in policy changing events.

The chapter has grown to include more then 50 members committed to upholding the mission of the sorority.

Programs & Projects

CHAPTER PROGRAMS & PROJECTS

The Cerritos Area Alumnae Chapter is a very busy group of women involved in numerous community service projects throughout the year. The Women Helping Women committee provides Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas gifts to needy families in the communty. Delta Academy makes blankets to share with the families served by Su Casa, a local shelter for victims of domestic violence. Our GEMS enjoy visiting the patients at a local convalescent hospital. Voter registration is a highlight of the Social Action committee, and the Boys & Girls Club of Whittier has been the recipient of many good books to read donated from Cerritos chapter members.  The annual International Day of Service Health Fair has become a highlight of the year and an event to be proud of. Cerritos has partnered with several other Los Angeles area chapters as well as other local agencies to share information about the prevention and treatment of diseases that have greatly affected the African American community including HIV/AIDS, diabetes, hypertension, and obesitiy.
